Wouldn't it be nice to be able to work and earn your wages just like everyone else with the only difference being that you work in the comfort of your own home? Or rather.. from wherever you want to be. That would be ideal, no?

But... come to think of it, I wouldn't mind having a proper office (especially if it's one like my dad's). It'd be much easier to separate work life from home life for sure. Or if I run something like an F&B business, then I'd be able to be in the shop/cafe/restaurant during peak hours and be home the rest of the time. Hmmm....

Note to self: Aiya.. still got more than a year to go at least. Finish your assignment.

Saturday, October 31, 2009

The place captured my heart so much I visited it three days in a row. Looking vastly different when you step into the place compared to what the place looks like if you just drive past it, Ferringhi Garden not only boasts of its beautiful landscaping and decor but also its gastronomic experience it offers guests. It's well tucked away in Batu Ferringhi; at the end of the line of night bazaar shops.

For starters, they serve each a slice of french baguette with cheese. The prawns were big and juicy and went very well with the thousand island-ish fruit salad burried underneath it and all of this is stuffed and balanced into three quarters of a pineapple with just right the amount of cabbage and cherry tomatoes on the side.

The pictures above show the restaurant's Mongolian beef with sauteed vegetables and crinkle cut fries served on a sizzling hot plate (my boyfriend and his brothers seemed to love this very much). The other picture here is what I had - lemongrass chicken with mashed potato with seasoning and ratatouille - and to me, it was gobsmacking good. There were other dishes I tasted on the other days I went there but I don't have pictures of them. I had one of their fish of which I really enjoyed but I really can't recall the name of the dish.

Mmm.. the dessert on the left is a pretty new one according to the absolutely informative waiter of which served us. For this one, I copied down the name cos I found it to be quite a unique one for the palate. Solo Ristretto Mela Affagato (I hope I got it right). It's a poached apple filled with a shot of coffee topped with a cinnamon biscuit stick. Oooh...I loved it. The picture on the right shows another two desserts - a chocolate brownie with ice cream and the other one of which 3 scoops of varying flavoured ice cream sit in half a papaya is called the love boat. My dad enjoyed this so much he wanted another. But we had a banana split instead. Of course, the call for more ice cream from Daddy was partly because the trio (names are John, Johnny & Jonathan) played us some good country tunes of which he absolutely adores (which came with a very generous tip by the way).

Instruments from left: Double bass, Banjo, Acoustic Guitar

This restaurant is definitely somewhere everyone should visit at least once. If I have the budget, and given that no other places top this one, I foresee myself holding a lot of celebrations there. I absolutely L-O-V-E the place!

Ratings
Food:
Price:
Service:
Experience:

Sunday, October 25, 2009

Peranakan Mansion (16-10-2009)

This tourist attraction which sits along Church Street is totally worth more than the RM10 entrance cum tour fee per head. The building is definitely like an illusion in terms of size. From the outside, it just looks like 'oh another one of those big old antique furnished houses'. But me oh my... the inside is B-I-G. It may just be two stories but it even boasts a temple of its own. The kitchen and servants room are kind of separated from the main building. Just a couple of days before visiting the mansion I watched Bobby Chin on TV cooking laksa in that kitchen!

There's no specific time slot for the tour around the mansion. The tourguide would take you in small groups around the place, explaining to you the history of the place of which is tied to the Hai San during the British reign here or whateveryoucallit. Everyone who steps foot here should really pop by the Peranakan Mansion. This was actually my first time there although I've been living here for umteen years. Teehee. It will certainly go in to my list of 'places to bring visitors to' from now on.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

We watched Bedtime Stories on dvd in the evening after buying all the stuff he needed to bring back to the UK with him and then went to makan with his mom and brothers. And guess what the boyfriend chose for his dinner (keep in mind that this is the meal to relish before he leaves food paradise) ........ KFC. Lol. He claims that the one there is just not the same. Well, so long as he loved it, fine by me. We went back to his place after that and somehow we all latched on to the Spot the Difference game on facebook. That was rather fun actually. Later in the night, the boyfriend and I Kopi Chi-ed and then Alan burger-ed with the brothers.

The car ride to the airport was the hardest for me this time round. I just don't like the idea of sending someone off. First was my big sis. And yesterday morning was him. Sigh. But hey, it's not for forever. They'll be back sooner than we know it.

I was praying for him once again while driving up to the parking payment counter at the airport and as I held back tears and looked up into the sky, there right in front of me beamed a full coloured rainbow. And I smiled and thanked the Lord. I know He keeps His promises.

Sunday, October 18, 2009

Have been enjoying such awesomeness with friends and family. Every day sees me through with fun things and new experiences but what makes it all that more worthwhile are the precious people who make up those moments you'll keep for long.

Today's car ride back home from Hardrock was a painfully (for the stomach) filled with a lot of laughter. Each of us in the car just seemed to be saying such funny things or misintepreting each other in ways that made things just so hilarious. It's really too hard to explain it here. You can try asking Yan to write about it. Haha.

If I feel like it, I shall very soon spam my own blog with photos of the exciting moments I've had captured in digital form.

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Oh my Cloudy (with a chance of) Meatballs please don't disappoint me.
Movies I recommend: Surrogates, Rebellion

Sunday, October 11, 2009

After a lovely seaside view lunch at Beach Hut, we began our journey around the island by car. The weather was great. Bright and sunny but it wasn't hot and humid because it had rained quite a bit in the morning and night before. So, from up north, we went to Batu Feringghi and on to Teluk Bahang and stopped by the dam to just take in a few moments of the pretty sight.

On we went to Teluk Bahang which took us all the way south of the island and saw ourselves drive past the durian farms in Balik Pulau. We made a pit stop at Tropical Fruit Farm where we had a glass of fresh fruit juice each. Shawn had a good glass of refreshing starfruit juice while I had local cherries juice with dried sourplum. You can't actually see the fruit farm itself because its way up the hill. You just get to buy some fruit at this little shed they have there. My toilet experience there was rather interesting. Just imagine - a plain white cubicle with a water closet. One side was of course the door, another two plain ones, and another was a 'half wall'. It was like having a huge picture of greenery inside your toilet. It overlooks the hill and you can see bits and pieces of the island when you look carefully in between the leaves of trees. So.. don't forget. If you get such a clear view from the inside, what would the view be from the outside looking in to that cozy little cubilcle where you tinkle. Mind you, the 'half wall' stands barely above my hips. Ha ha.

Moving on... we got ourselves lost in Balik Pulau area. Took the road to Permatang Pasir hoping to catch the beach and fishing village but we turned around once the road got narrow. Then we just drove around and found MARA college (did you know it was here?) and also some other buildings and stuff. Followed the Bayan Lepas sign, got distracted, killed curiosity, found another Bayan Lepas sign, followed it, and found ourselves on another hill. This road was very new to me. There was a lot of construction going on around the hill - looked like they were building some sort of massive structure; bridge or something - and there were traffic lights even.... on the hill road!

Well, we managed to land ourselves near the airport and made our way back up using Greenlane. Decided to try out the hi-tea buffet at City Bayview. Only RM9.90++ per person. Not that wide a variety. But good enough for 10 bucks. The vote for its fried rice, bread pudding, egg sandwiches and rojak. Well worth it. Open daily at the hotel's lobby lounge from 3-6pm.

So that was the little adventure day.
